A word cloud made from reviews of my teaching in Fall 2020:

Positive feedback from students of COR-1100: Intellectual Foundations (A remote course offered Fall 2020 at Carthage College)

“I wanna say that you have been such an amazing teacher this semester. You always were so enthusiastic about what we were talking about which actually kept my attention and made the class really enjoyable. Which can be very difficult to do with zoom. Even though we have never really met in person I can still say that you have been one of the greatest teachers I have ever had.”

“Your class is my favorite out of any class I have ever been in.”

“Just wanted to say thanks for the amazing semester. It's been a privilege to learn from you, and it's so cool to hear your take on books we've been reading. It really adds a new perspective. I hope I get to have you as my teacher next semester as well, although I know it's not likely. “

“Thank you again for a great semester Mr. McKenzie. I really enjoyed you and your class! It has been a great pleasure.”

(Student note on final exam)

“Very enlightening course which allowed me to think of topics in new ways through the readings and essays. Also, in class discussions were very helpful. The discussions allowed for me to think more about what I was reading and to prepare for the in class discussions.”

“He was very excited about topics and attempted to bring us his excitement. The discussions we had were real and unscripted. I appreciated that he did not call on students and force them to talk. Overall a great professor and I would enjoy taking another class from him.”

“Great teacher who was ready for every class. The organization of the class was impeccable and allowed for students to know exactly when things were due. The feedback was also very useful and provided deeper insight and knowledge that the students didn’t know before and could learn from.”

“Professor MacKenzie was one of my favorite instructors this semester. I always enjoyed coming to his class as it was a relaxing way to end a busy day of rigorous work from my morning classes. Furthermore, I felt he was always extremely reachable and fexible, always willing to help out each student individually regardless of their needs.”

“I liked both the subject matter and the format of this class. I found the diverse texts we read to be very interesting, as there was a wide assortment of different viewpoints from a wide assortment of authors. Also, I enjoyed the all-remote format, as it meant that everyone was on equal footing due to us all being in the same boat so to speak.”

“Each week we had a discussion post due and it helped my writing skills. The papers due in the class also helped my writing skills because he was able to give feedback on what worked and what didn’t work with my papers.”

“The professor utilized a weekly discussion board and breakout rooms in Zoom classes to keep us involved and up to date with work. They made their expectations clear and were not afraid to be generous on timelines based on the state of the world today.”

“Since this class was completely remote, I found it easier to not switch back and forth from online and in person. Professor McKenzie did a great job keeping things up to date on Schoology which made getting assignments done easy and efficient”

“Allowing the students to pick their own topics for essays allowed students to research what they wanted to learn. Zoom was also very helpful.”

“The professor did a wonderful job teaching this course remotely. We had discussions during our learning time and it helped my understanding of the subject more clearly and also brought new ideas!”

“The professor for this course did an amazing job getting his students to participate during zoom discussions and he would always offer new ideas during these discussions. He helped a lot with writing papers and gave very good feedback.”
